Hello folks,
I was wondering if anyone here knew what Company of the 325th was Amos W. Wilder with when he got killed in action in Belgium on January 3rd, 1945?
Amos was a qualified parachutist who did 2 combat jumps in North Africa and who was transfered to the glider troops in January 1943.
I was curious to know if anyone here had some informations about the circumstances of his death, etc.?
Thank you very much,
Cheers,
Christophe

Hi Christophe,
2 Combat jumps in North Africa ; He was indeed with the 2/503rd and flew the snafu mission from England to Oran... why transfer to a glider outfit?

Denis,

Amos Wilder was transfered in mid-January 1943 to Headquarters Command, AFHQ (Allied Forces Headquarters). I have no idea why he got transfered out of the 509th, but prior to his transfer out, he had also been moved from one Company to another several times, which might be an indication that he did something (maybe on a disciplinary level?).

I have no idea when he got actually transfered to the 82d Airborne and most specifically to the 325th Gli Inf, but he was KIA with this Regiment in Belgium. I believe he was with I Company, but I am still trying to confirm this information, and that's why I was asking if anyone here knew about his death.

Cheers,

Christophe

Christophe,
I looked up his gravestone file and here is what I found.
Amos W Wilder was born 1/9/18. Enlisted 9/10/39 #14018975. It list him as KIA 1/3/45 as memeber of Company F, 325th GIR. Buried Pitts Cemetary in Newman, Georgia. I hope this helps.
